Why the Portugal HQA Visa May Appeal to H-1B Holders
H-1B and the Portugal HQA Visa operate under separate immigration systems. H-1B allows qualifying professionals to work in the United States through eligible US employment. The Portugal HQA route is available more broadly to professionals who meet Portugal's requirements for highly qualified activity.
An applicant does not need to hold H-1B status to qualify for the HQA Visa. For someone currently on H-1B, however, the program may provide an opportunity to pursue Portuguese residence outside the US employment-based immigration system.
An approved Portuguese residence permit allows the holder to reside in Portugal and provides the Schengen Area travel rights associated with Portuguese residence. Qualifying family members may also be eligible through Portugal's family reunification rules.

Can You Explore the Portugal HQA Visa While on H-1B?
